Teachers who work at a small school in rural Oregon were socked when two masked men wearing hoodies burst into the conference room and pretended to open fire.  The test was designed to test the school's preparation in dealing with an assault.

Students were not at the school during it.  The teachers were having a faculty training day.  Morgan Gover, an elementary school teacher, said that only two of her colleagues would have survived the shooting.

An example of the new whiteboards
A Minnesota school lost two students in 2003 due to a shooting.  To make the school safer for teachers and students they installed bullet proof white boards.

The school received nearly 200 18x20 whiteboards, which are made of a material that is stronger than that in police issued vests.  The boards will act as shields in any emergency.

"We put this board to the test, and quite frankly, that was the day I became a believer" said Chief Jones.  I think that the boards are a very good idea, but i feel as though they would benefit more if the boards were bigger.

An eleven year old boy saved his mothers life my dialing 911 then performing CPR.  He found his mother unconscious after he got home from school Friday.

He followed the 911 instructors directions to save his mothers life.  The police then came and took over CPR until the paramedics arrived.

I think this little boy is very brave and mature.  He kept his calm during the whole thing, which is how he was able to save his mothers life.

The girls that saved their father

A man from Oregon was trapped under a 3,000 pound tractor  and his two daughters managed to just lift it off of him.  He said he was just doing yard work when he was pinned to the ground the steering wheel.

His two daughters, ages 16 and 14, had just got home from school when they heard their father scream.  The girls ran to their fathers side.  They called 911 but decided they couldn't wait for the emergency crew so they each grabbed a side of the tractor and started lifting.

I think the girls had a lot of adrenaline rushing through their bodies, which is why they were able to lift the tractor.  They were very brave.

A 9 year old girl crawled out of an SUV after she had been in a crash.  She walked a mile in the dark to  find help after the crash had killed her father.  They were in southern california.

The vehicle was launched 200 feet down an embankment on the Sierra Highway at about 1 a.m on sunday.  "She walked quite a distance in a very threatening environment" says CHP Sgt. Tom Lackey. I feel very bad for this little girl, she is so brave.

This is a photo of my co-counselor blowing the horn to end a game of capture the flag boys vs girls that the girls had won.

I like this photo because its an action shot and you can really tell how enthused she is about winning.  I dislike this photo because it is a little blurry and there is someone in the background distracting from the main focal point.

It was taken on an iphone at about five at night with natural lighting.  The location is Camp Immokalee in keystone heights.

A 37 year old man from Russia was found with some 26,000 diamonds in his carry-on luggage.  The diamonds were worth at least $162,000 and were held in transparent plastic bags.

Russian federal custom agents say that he was transporting the jewels from Dubai.  I dont really know what to think about this story, but if they belonged to him, then i am all for him.

Fair Use Quiz

1.  Walk Disney Pictures
2.
3.  No because you aren't making another copy of the CD or DVD and selling that one, you are simply finished with the item and want to sell it to maybe be able to buy something else.
4.  I think the purpose of copyrighting is to be able to make money on a copy of something you still want to keep and use.
5.  If Paul didn't leave the people on his site access or a link to the original photographers website where he found the pictures, or if he didn't tell people who took the pictures, then yes he is infringing on the photographers copyright.
6.  When the owner gives you permission to do so.
7.  Says that portions of the piece can be used without copyright permission.
8.  It lets you have a say in how others can use your work.
9.  Its never acceptable.
10.  True, because you rented it and it doesn't matter who you let watch it, because for that time period you own it.
11.  When something is publicly available.
12.
13.  True, because he isn't getting permission from the original creator, and then he is putting it in his song as his own.

One happy dog

Reflection:
This is my dog lily waiting to be allowed to get on the trampoline.  She loves jumping on it everyday.  It was taken with an iphone in the middle of the day with natural lighting.

I like this photo because of the contrast of the light sun hit leaves with the dark color of her fur.  I also like it because she just looks so happy to be able to jump again.  I dislike this photo because of how the outer bar of the trampoline doesn't go straight across the foreground.

Gladys the gorilla

Some zoo workers in Cincinnati are playing the role of this baby gorillas mother by wearing all black outfits, grunting affectionately, and imitating mother gorillas to help the baby adjust to a new home.  When she gets older, they will take it a step further and wear hairy vests and carry the baby gorilla on their backs.

"Whatever a gorilla mom would do with her baby s what we have to do with this baby" says Ron Evans who is the zoo's primate team leader.  Ron heads a team of 10 people who switch our every eight hours to provide 24 hour care.

Above is Ashlee Arnau

Ashlee is a cheerleader at William Carey University in Hattiesburg Mississippi.  She made the most incredible half-court shot of this years college basketball season.

She has tried to make a half court shot with a soccer-style flip throw at every home basketball game since Christmas.  She is a 21 year old in the junior class.

She had been close to making every shot, but she finally made it this past Thursday.  The whole crowd went crazy and she was ecstatic that she made the shoot.
